  • Bridging Boundaries will host its 4th annual 1.2 Mile community Heart Walk on Oct. 4 to raise awareness for sudden cardiac arrest and offer training in CPR + AED use.  Mid-Michigan NOW

  • Local entrepreneurs and small business owners met at the Gateway Center Wyndham Hotel in Mundy Township for the Immerse Entrepreneurial & Small Business Summit to learn about pitching, marketing, opening brick-and-mortar stores, and funding options — Sandra Kelley said she found new ideas during a retail session — and four people received awards for growth and service.  Mid-Michigan NOW

CULTURE NEWS

  • Mid-Michigan communities host events this weekend—Bay City's Hell’s Half Mile Film and Music Festival runs Sept. 25—28, Flint's production of 'Xanadu' will play 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 2:30 p.m. Sunday, and Saginaw’s Pit and Balcony Theatre premieres 'You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown' today with additional shows on Sundays at 3 p.m. The annual River of Time reenactment runs from today to Sept. 28 at Johnson’s Pumpkin Farm in Buena Vista Township, and Bangor Township offers 'The Edson Incident' haunted attraction on the USS Edson from 8 p.m. to midnight Friday and Saturday.  MLive
  • The Saginaw Art Museum & Gardens acquired 'An Offering to the Great Spirit' by Eanger Irving Couse, an artist born three miles away, from a donation by Cheryl and Harlow Murray Jr. The museum will celebrate the addition with a free event at 5:30 p.m. on Oct. 2.  MLive

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Local farmers in Davison are facing rising tariffs this harvest season as input costs rose 20% and crop prices fell 30%—China is buying soybeans from other countries so farmers could lose 60 to 90 cents per bushel of soybeans and 25 cents per bushel of corn.  ABC 12

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • On Thursday, the Justice Department sued Michigan and five other states for not providing statewide voter registration rolls, alleging they violated the National Voter Registration Act—federal law designed to keep elections accurate and secure. This suit follows claims that states must maintain clean voter records in compliance with federal standards.  WNEM
  • The Secretary of State’s Office announced absentee ballots are now available for the local elections set for November 4—residents should request their ballot by contacting their city or township clerk.  WNEM
  • A federal judge ruled against the EPA's motion to dismiss lawsuits that claim the agency did not enforce safe drinking water laws in Flint and allowed the cases to move forward. Nearly 26,000 claimants, including many children, could see settlement funds grow if the EPA is found liable—making the ruling a key step in holding the agency accountable.  ABC 12

HEALTH NEWS

  • Striking nurses and staff at Henry Ford Genesys Hospital in Grand Blanc Township have been picketing continuously since Labor Day to demand a fair nurse-to-patient ratio and better contract terms—Teamsters Local 332 said negotiations will continue today as the hospital works to address their concerns.  ABC 12
  • The Walk for Parkinson’s 2025 was held yesterday at Henry Ford Genesys Health Club — benefiting the Michigan Parkinson Foundation.  ABC 12

  • Robert Hicks from Foundation Systems of Michigan advised homeowners to check insulation and seal gaps as they winterize their homes for the coming cold months—his advice can help prevent costly damage. He stressed that starting these maintenance tasks now will ease home upkeep during the chilly season.  Mid-Michigan NOW
