- ➤ Saginaw Heritage JV & Varsity boys soccer teams held their annual Pink Out night to raise breast cancer awareness & honor survivors. The event featured a raffle, bake sale & tribute presentation, with funds benefiting the Covenant Breast Health Center Patient Care Fund. ABC 12
- ➤ Three Saginaw public art projects—the Shine Bright Saginaw Silo Mural Project, The Great Mural Project, and the Henry Marsh Plaza—earned Keep Michigan Beautiful Awards for beautification and community pride, while two local projects—the Cass River Trailhead Park and the Pine Island Design Building Project—received awards for revitalization efforts across the state. - ➤ Michigan Forensic Examiners will stage a benefit performance of 'The Vagina Monologues' at Pit and Balcony Theatre on Oct. 11 from 7 to 9 p.m. to raise funds for free, trauma-informed forensic exams for survivors of sexual and physical violence in mid-Michigan—with sponsorship from Valley OB/GYN Clinic. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Local public transit services in Bay City and Saginaw welcomed the state budget that provides over $160 million—$95 million for bus operations and $65 million for infrastructure projects—to help riders reach work, school and medical care. State representative Jason Morgan and transit leaders said the record funding will expand services and prevent cuts if federal funds remain limited. ABC 12
- ➤ Governor Whitmer signed the 2026 state budget on Tuesday which sets aside $81 billion for roads, schools, safety and growth. The law will spend nearly $2 billion on road fixes and give tax cuts—helping seniors and families save money. ABC 12
- ➤ Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel said that the federal government dropped its plan to add illegal immigration rules to nearly $1.4 billion in VOCA funds—money that helps crime victims will now go to states without extra conditions. WNEM

- ➤ Saginaw boxer Tyrone Welch, 22, became unresponsive in the second round of a Saturday night fight at Gideon Boxing Gym and died early Sunday morning—his mother said delayed CPR and weak safety protocols contributed to his death while the gym held a mourning gathering Monday evening. ABC 12
- ➤ Birch Run junior Kylie Mausolf earned over 700 votes to be named MLive Saginaw Athlete of the Week and placed fourth with a time of 19:04.9 at the Saginaw County Cross Country Championships—she has qualified for the state meet in her first two seasons. MLive
- ➤ A Saginaw mother said she lost her son, Tyrone Welch (age 22), when he died shortly after his bout Saturday night at the Gideon Boxing Gym and she demanded that the gym use certified medical staff and an AED machine to improve safety for future bouts. WNEM
- ➤ Maddison Derosia, a 5-foot-6 outside hitter for the Panthers, earned the MLive Saginaw Senior Fall Sports Athlete of Year honor after averaging over 10 kills per match—she impressed her opponents during Birch Run's 2024 volleyball match. MLive
