COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Winter Village, a senior living community in Frankenmuth, will host an Oktoberfest celebration on Oct. 16 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.—the event will feature German cuisine, festive music, and raffle prizes while benefiting local charities.  MLive

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • On Oct. 8, a small fire broke out at the Saginaw Recycling Facility and was quickly controlled by the fire department, which arrived at 8:04 a.m.—no injuries were reported and no damage occurred to the building.  WNEM

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The superintendent discussed the school budget on Oct. 9—districts were still trying to figure out all the details. Officials said more information will be provided as planning continues.  WNEM

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Four Lakes Task Force said that rebuilding the dams was on schedule & on budget.  WNEM

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • A new energy-efficient housing development on South Cabaret Trail in Saginaw Township was approved by the Planning Commission and will build three two-story multi-family buildings with nine units to help ease the rental shortage—each unit features two bedrooms, two and a half bathrooms, and an 80-square-foot patio. Construction will start early next year and finish by the end of the year.  MLive

SPORTS NEWS

  • Freeland's Alexis Heinz and Reese Conlee finished first and second at Pine River Country Club in Alma, and the team scored 358 to beat Frankenmuth's 376—ensuring its berth in the state tournament.  MLive
  • Dillion Clark gave an early update on the Saginaw Spirit, detailing the team’s performance and plans for future games—his remarks underscored a focus on improvement.  WNEM
  • Hugh the Mad Bavarian Bernreuter predicted that Week 7 Saginaw-area high school football games will be played in chilly conditions as Saginaw United hosts Bay City Central for homecoming. He finished Week 6 with an 8-2 record in top 10 games and a 19-4 overall record—he expects strong competition in the upcoming matchups.  MLive
