  • In June 2024, Saginaw public art projects—Shine Bright Saginaw Silo Mural Project, The Great Mural Project, and the Henry Marsh Plaza mural—earned Keep Michigan Beautiful awards for turning old spaces into vibrant art areas for the community. Two additional county projects were also recognized for enhancing local beautification.  MLive

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Michigan Cream and Sugar Ice Cream Company now offers shipping services that deliver its handcrafted ice cream made with locally sourced ingredients nationwide using special packaging to keep it frozen. The company also provides local delivery from its Saginaw shop—charging $80 for six pints plus a $25 fee per address, with shipments on Wednesdays and Fridays and nationwide orders shipped Monday for next-day arrival.  MLive

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Saginaw County 911 announced that its director will step down Nov.5 and that supervisor Jessica Tumblin will serve as interim director starting Nov.6. Staff say they are overworked with long 12-hour shifts—only 16 of 30 positions are filled as the center struggles with a staffing shortage.  WNEM

HEALTH NEWS

  • Cathedral Free Clinic, Saginaw’s only free medical clinic for uninsured residents, will hold a public ribbon cutting and open house on Oct. 22 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. The event will be at St. Mary’s Center of Hope Building—723 Emerson Street, as the clinic aims to expand basic care for the community.  WNEM

SPORTS NEWS

  • Freeland will host Frankenmuth on Friday in a Tri-Valley Conference championship game—fans can predict the winner as a Freeland win would tie the title while Frankenmuth seeks to secure another share of its 14th consecutive championship.  MLive
  • Bay City Western girls’ golf team won the Bay County Girls Golf Championship on Sept. 30 by defeating Midland Dow by 50 strokes—capping a perfect season in the Saginaw Valley League with standout performances from Shaelin Ulbricht, Sarah Luptowski, Brinley Bailey, Kayla Montcalm, Grace Navelgas and Julia Budzinski.  MLive
  • Freeland beat Swan Valley in a close boys soccer district semifinal at Alma on Monday as both teams battled hard. The 15-year-old Cooper Wagner made key plays to help set Freeland on a path toward the next round.  MLive
