- ➤ On Saturday, Nov. 15 from 9 a.m. to noon Women of Colors will host its annual drive-thru coat giveaway at Kempton Elementary School in Saginaw—volunteers will distribute winter coats and accessories while traffic is rerouted due to construction and parents must keep children inside their vehicles with completed registration forms. - ➤ Families welcoming newborns at MyMichigan Medical Center Midland will receive 100 donated books—granted in memory of 17-year-old Haley Jarosiewicz, a Midland High School student who died in a car crash in January. Becky Jarosiewicz and other family members created the donation to honor her love of reading and plan to continue the tribute each year. MLive

- ➤ Kinepolis announced a $105 million deal to acquire Emagine Entertainment, which includes its Birch Run and Saginaw theaters, as part of its expansion in the U.S. market—Kinepolis will continue to operate the theaters under the Emagine name for a smooth transition for customers and employees. EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Carrollton Public Schools expanded its free after-school dinner program on Monday—adding Omni High School and the J.B. Griffin Early Childhood Education Building—to give more students a third free meal during set times; all meals must be eaten on site at the four schools. WNEM
- ➤ Birch Run voters rejected a $17.8M bond proposal on Nov. 4 that would have funded safety upgrades, infrastructure updates and new classrooms with no tax increase in 2026. The measure—featuring a 20-year—2.25-mill tax extension—failed as voters in Birch Run, Taymouth Township and Vienna Township cast ballots against it. MLive
- ➤ Residents in Saginaw Township voted down a $169.2 million school bond proposal on Nov. 4 — 7,691 to 4,735, halting plans to update aging school facilities. School officials said they will review the election results and plan next steps. MLive

- ➤ Michigan 211 has seen a 200% increase in calls since the government shutdown began—many residents are seeking help amid reduced government support. WNEM
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Renowned neurosurgeon Dr E Malcolm Field died on November 3 at 95, and he treated over 315,000 patients + performed nearly 60,000 surgeries during his 65 year career. He helped start the Field Neurosciences Institute + donated funds to keep health care affordable. MLive
- ➤ Alumni from the Saginaw General School of Nursing gathered at Covenant HealthCare this week to unveil a commemorative painting honoring past nurses+ artist Stephen Hargash created the piece to mark a 70-year legacy in nursing education.
