- ➤ A Frankenmuth-based food pantry has become a lifeline for veterans in need as it fills carts and closes gaps for those who once served—offering essential food support during hard times. WNEM
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ The Boys and Girls Clubs of the Great Lakes Bay Region will hold its Night to Remember Gala on Nov. 13 to support after-school and summer programs for children in Bay and Saginaw counties — a donation of 75 laptops from AT&T and Human IT means each child will get their own laptop for homework or creative projects. - ➤ Voters rejected two school bond proposals in Saginaw County on Tuesday, with Saginaw Township Community Schools' $169.2 million plan getting 4,735 yes votes to 7,691 no votes and Birch Run Area Schools' $17.8 million request losing 1,089 to 1,253. The defeats leave both districts without needed funds for building repairs, safety updates and facility improvements. WSGW
- ➤ Voters on November 4 rejected bond proposals for Birch Run Area Schools and Saginaw Township Community Schools—54% and 62% of voters said no, respectively. District leaders will review the results and decide on next steps to update aging school buildings—planning for future upgrades. Mid-Michigan NOW
- ➤ John Glenn High School celebrated the opening of a new facility featuring a SmartLab, auxiliary gym, weight room, and training room for student-athletes. The school said the addition aims to expand learning opportunities — it will promote wellness and enhance academic programs. Mid-Michigan NOW
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ A federal court order to keep SNAP running led to reduced benefits for recipients because only about half the usual aid is being provided after funding ended on Nov. 1. Michigan’s Department of Health and Human Services said the USDA will send partial payments Saturday for those who normally receive benefits on the 3rd, 5th or 7th—while extra funds went to food banks although no full funding plan is in place.
