- ➤ Downtown Saginaw will host the free annual Holidays in the Heart of the City event this Friday, Nov 21, and Saturday, Nov 22—featuring a tree lighting at the Saginaw Water Treatment Plant with fireworks Friday and a Christmas parade with live music, wagon rides, and other attractions on Saturday. - ➤ Mid-Michigan has many events this weekend—today a Trans Day of Remembrance Rally in Bay City at 6 p.m. and a John 5 concert in Flint at 6 p.m. kick off the festivities. Friday through Sunday bring a holiday launch with a Jerry Seinfeld show at 7 p.m. in downtown Saginaw, a Christmas Parade starting Saturday at 11 a.m., turkey giveaways in Flint and Burton, and an Interfaith Thanksgiving service at Sai Samaj on Sunday at 3 p.m. MLive
- ➤ Local students from Hemlock High, Thomas White Elementary and Saginaw ISD joined the Saginaw County Road Commission’s annual Paint-a-Plow program this fall to transform snowplow blades with colorful designs that promote winter safety. The painted plows will be on the roads this winter — a display of local creativity and a reminder for drivers to keep a safe distance from snow vehicles. WNEM
- ➤ The Saginaw County foster grandparents program has announced $1 million in new federal funding that will let seniors return to classrooms and help young students until June 2026. Volunteers celebrated the news after the program lost funding in August and are eager to resume their work. ABC 12
- ➤ Hemlock Public School District hosted its 54th Senior Citizen Thanksgiving Dinner at Hemlock Middle School where more than 300 seniors enjoyed a full meal with turkey, mashed potatoes, stuffing and dessert, served by students, staff and volunteers—an event honoring community members who built the schools. - ➤ At Bridgeport-Spaulding Community School District, supporters of the superintendent petitioned on November 19 to recall three board members—seeking their removal from office—and claim the move will change school leadership. WNEM
- ➤ Saginaw STEM partnered with Saginaw ISD to host a Coding for Kids event titled STEM Saturday at SVRC Marketplace (a local community hub) that will offer basic coding lessons (designed for young learners). WNEM
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Bay County commissioners approved today the transfer of about $1.35 million in opioid settlement funds to the Bay Area Community Foundation—this fund will support careful grantmaking for opioid prevention, treatment and recovery in our community. WNEM
- ➤ A study exploring a potential passenger rail route across Michigan is nearing completion and could be finalized this winter — the report covers route refinements, cost estimates, and planning for stops in mid-Michigan towns such as Alma and Owosso. The project team will share findings at community meetings and through a public survey starting later this month. WNEM

- ➤ Hemlock Public School District has installed Stop the Bleed kits on each bus to offer quick first aid in emergencies. Retired teacher Dana Lockwood used the kit's tourniquet to stop her husband's severe bleeding after a tree-related injury—she now urges a change to the Good Samaritan Law. ABC 12
