  • Over two hundred locals joined Thanksgiving weekend footraces, including the 30th annual Turkey Trot on the Tridge and the 69th annual Mott Park Turkey Trott before enjoying their feast. A commercial structure fire on South Trumbull Road was investigated and Gordie's Bar held its soft opening in downtown Saginaw — events that marked a busy holiday in the community.  WNEM
  • A commercial structure fire on Tuesday night in the 700 Block of South Trumbull Road left a building in shambles — Downtown Saginaw saw Gordie's Bar hold its soft open on the biggest bar night of the year while CMU students used calculus to check a turkey’s safe temperature as nursing programs lost their professional degree status, a change that may increase student costs.  WNEM

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Begick Nursery & Garden Center in Frankenlust Township has transformed its space into a Christmas wonderland that sells out every season. Staff begin nearly a full year of planning in January by ordering and arranging tens of thousands of decorations before a busy weekend of sales after Thanksgiving.  MLive
  • Malls across Mid-Michigan will offer extended hours for Black Friday shopping today. Bay City Town Center will be open from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.—Birch Run Premium Outlets and Midland Mall will open from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m.  WNEM

CULTURE NEWS

  • Several holiday events will take place this weekend in mid-Michigan—Pit and Balcony Theatre shows 'A Wicked Christmas Carol' with performances today at 7:30 p.m., Saturday at 7:30 p.m., and Sunday at 3 p.m., and Temple Theatre screens 'White Christmas' today at 7:30 p.m. Other events include the musical 'Six' at Midland Center for the Arts, 'Season of Light' at Delta College Planetarium on Saturday at 3:30 p.m., and concerts at Bay City State Theater and Longway Planetarium in Flint with tickets ranging from $4 to $25.  MLive

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Greater Michigan Construction Academy will host a local craft competition on Monday, Dec. 1 at its Midland location at 7730 W. Wackely St.—where ten students will compete in electrical, carpentry, HVAC and pipefitting challenges—and top qualifiers will earn invitations to the ABC National Competition while the public watches for free.  MLive

SPORTS NEWS

  • Over two hundred locals ran the 30th annual Turkey Trot on the Tridge yesterday, competing in one-mile and three-mile races to help local causes ahead of Thanksgiving. The event is Michigan’s oldest consecutively run footrace—unifying community members with every step.  WNEM
