- ➤ Boxes-On-Break & Kroger will host a three-day food drive from Dec. 11-13 at 4672 State in Saginaw Township to collect food and funds for 750 boxes to help students during winter break, with volunteers delivering boxes on Dec. 28-29 at SVRC Marketplace. MLive
- ➤ Local businesses led by Wonder Burger will serve 1,500 free meals to residents in need at Hoyt Park on Sunday, Dec. 14 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The event will unite community members during the holiday season. Mid-Michigan NOW

- ➤ Early winter chill has formed ice on local lakes, and safety officials advise checking ice thickness (4 inches for walking, 8 or more for driving) before venturing out. They stress having a buddy nearby and to call 911 if someone falls through. Mid-Michigan NOW
- ➤ Michigan Department of Health and Human Services released a statement Friday disagreeing with new federal guidance to delay the hepatitis B vaccine birth dose and urged health care providers and families to follow the standard schedule — experts warn delaying the shot could increase lifelong infection risks.
