- ➤ Caring Closet is hosting the Great Christmas Giveaway today in Kochville Township to offer local families free gifts, holiday treats and support. WNEM
- ➤ A trailer full of hygiene items was delivered to the Aleda E. Lutz VA Medical Center on Friday, Dec. 12 by the Great Lakes Bay Veterans Coalition to support low-income veterans. The drive, in its 8th year, collected over 10,000 items in 270 boxes and totes. Mid-Michigan NOW
- ➤ Shiawassee Humane Society is working with police & county animal control to find who abandoned Libra, a 6-year-old dog found underweight and with sores in November, as she now needs weekly treatments and costly medications. WNEM
ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ A fire damaged a key facility at Auto City Speedway in Clio early Thursday, and owner Joe Dewitte (who said the blaze was likely electrical) plans to rebuild the facility in time for racing season in early May. ABC 12

- ➤ K?ONDA! is hosting its Christmas Bazaar today at Radiant Church of God in Saginaw, offering a festive market with local vendors and activities for the community. ABC 12
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ On Dec. 8, the Frankenmuth School Board selected JoLynn Clark (a 23-year educator) as the new superintendent pending contract negotiations. Clark has served as interim superintendent and high school principal, filling the vacancy left earlier this year. MLive
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ MDOT closed lanes overnight on northbound I-75 at US-10 for sign work that ended this morning + will resume on southbound lanes from 8 p.m. Dec.15 to 6 a.m. Dec.16 in Bay County as part of a $5.3 million safety upgrade project. MLive
- ➤ Michigan lawmakers introduced bills in Lansing on Dec. 10 that require utilities to use virtual power plants—aggregating energy from EVs, solar panels, and smart thermostats—to lower costs and reduce outages. Regulators will soon set rules to ensure safe and effective use of these systems. MLive
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Since 2021, Michigan hospitals have reported over 2,200 cases of the drug-resistant fungus Candida auris — deemed an urgent threat by the CDC — prompting state health officials to roll out surveillance and preventive measures at health care facilities, including in Saginaw county. MLive
- ➤ Lawmakers cut $18.5 million from the prenatal and infant support program Rx Kids, but program leaders assure enrolled families that payments will continue and major donors are covering gaps. Rx Kids will launch in Saginaw early next year + residents are encouraged to urge local officials to support its funding. Mid-Michigan NOW
