  • Michigan Cream and Sugar held a ribbon cutting ceremony Tuesday at its new Hamilton Street store in Old Town Saginaw, which now serves as the company’s production center after expanding from its Bay City location — the store will be open Tuesdays through Sundays.  WSGW

CRIME NEWS

  • Willie V. Allen, an Illinois man, was sentenced on Mar. 19th to life without parole and at least 74 additional years for killing a 50-year-old woman on May 26th at about 9:30 p.m. in Saginaw—he fled the scene in a vehicle, rammed a patrol car and exchanged gunfire with police before being arrested.  WNEM
  • A teen who entered the courtroom on crutches a day before his 14th birthday testified that he accidentally shot his leg while trying to scare coyotes off his family's Buena Vista Township property; prosecutors say his mother may be held criminally liable under a gun storage law passed after the Oxford High School shooting, though her attorney argues the law was not meant for this situation.  MLive

CULTURE NEWS

  • Preservationists put up the restored Hut Hamburgs sign—once from a restaurant closed 40 years ago—at the Old Saginaw City Historic Sign Park near Court and South Hamilton in spring and will add neon lighting in the coming weeks. The $3,000 fix is likely the park’s last new sign—showing the space is nearly full.  MLive

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Michigan House passed a nine-bill package on March 19 that redirected roughly $3.14 billion from sales tax and corporate income tax dollars to repair roads and bridges—now the bills head to the Senate for review.  MLive

  • Bay City John Glenn—league champion—led the TVC Red all-league team with Demetrious Ward and Danzell Calhoun earning first-team honors while Freeland’s Wilson Huckeby and Tristan Comer were also selected.
