- ➤ Today starts a busy weekend in mid-Michigan as events such as the 46th Hemlock Sawdust Days Festival at Richland Township Park, Flint Roller Derby’s season opener on Saturday, and a fall flea market in Midland take place with contests, live music—food vendors and family activities available. Additional plans include film screenings at the Flint Institute of the Arts, a kayaking event called Pints and Paddles in Saginaw Township, Begick Nursery’s 75th Anniversary Family Day, a Michigan Makers Market in Bay City, a trail mix event on Great Lakes Bay Regional Trail, and a Halloween-themed night out at Auto City Speedway in Clio. - ➤ The East Side Soup Kitchen and Hidden Harvest began expanding their Hunger Solution Center in Saginaw to store donated food, upgrade their drive-through, and serve more meals in response to rising community need + the project is set to finish next fall with support from $100,000 donations by Consumers Energy and Jolt Credit Union. - ➤ MDARD urges animal owners to follow biosecurity practices as wild birds migrate through the state.
